Sistemas Especiales de Metalización, S.A. (SEM) is a company founded in 1956 in Gijón (Asturias). SEM is nowadays a national reference in the area of surface treatment and painting. SEM has a deep know-how in surface treatments in a wide variety of industrial applications, in civil and industrial works, thanks to more than 65 years of activity. Some of its activities are: metallisation, paint application, shot blasting/blasting, chemical and mechanical stripping, ..etc. Its mission is to be a diversified group of companies of international reference in the use and development of innovative technologies related to surface treatment, providing added value to customers, employees, shareholders and society.

SEM is a company specialised in surface treatments. Its main activities are:

  • Automatic and manual shot blasting.
  • Sandblasting with special abrasives.
  • Application of shop primers.
  • Application of paint systems.
  • Passive fireprotection.
  • Metallisation.
  • Concrete regeneration.
  • Industrial flooring.
  • Paint stripping.
  • Coating of silicone insulators.
  1. Has the ability to work on the customer ‘s premises on a permanent basis (success stories at Arcelor Mittal since 1992), TKE since 2006, Asturfeito 2013, Navantia since 2019, Nordex Acciones since 2013) and by projects (Cepsa, Repsol, Idesa, DF, ENSA, ..etc).
  2. It has its own facilities in the Silvota industrial estate on a 30.000 m2 with 9.000 m2 covered with blasting, metallising and painting cabins with large capacities.
  3. ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO 45001 certifications are available. Our employees are qualified to the highest industry standards, ACQPA/NORSOK M501 and our inspectors are NACE and FROSIO LEVEL III.

Success stories

SEM has carried out the surface treatment of several defence programmes. SEM is carrying out the special surface treatment of containers that will contain nuclear waste in the coming years through an agreement with a Spanish nuclear industry company.
