On Wednesday 18 February, we held an event at AS5Hub (Gijón Science and Technology Park) a key event to strengthen the knowledge and capabilities of our business ecosystem in the areas of security, certifications and regulatory requirements in the defence sector.
For more than two hours, representatives from the institutional sector, technology and security sectors shared a comprehensive vision of the current challenges and the standards required to access to contracts and projects within the sector.

1. Context and strategic vision of the defence sector
From Asturias Hub Defence we open the session by highlighting the importance of security as a distinguishing factor and essential requirement for for operating in the market for Defence, as well as its direct impact on contracts and tenders.
2. Regulatory framework for security of classified information
Led by Dianet Jardines and Sofía Álvarez (Castroalonso), attendees learnt about:
- Types of certifications (HSEM, HSES, HPS) and when they apply.
- Deadlines, costs, common errors and liabilities.
- Regulations NATO and EU applied to actual projects.
3. Certifications for safety essential for the sector
Mario Junquera (Govertis – Telefónica Tech) outlined the key aspects of the ENS (Basic, Medium and High), its relationship with ISO 27001 and other relevant certifications such as ISO 22301, NATO/EU standards and international references such as NIST/CMMC.
The standard requirements of major contractors in the defence sector were also discussed.
4. Protocols for physical security and management of staff
Mario Martín (AsturCON.tech – Civil Guard) explored the following:
- Protocols for physical security and access control.
- Staff selection and monitoring in relation to internal risks.
- Procedures for communication with authorities and management of incidents.
